Communications and Networking

In the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University, a wide spectrum of research topics related to communication and networking are investigated. Some examples include polar codes, wireless and optical networks, 5G and beyond, queueing systems and Markov chains, information theory, multi-user and multi-antenna systems, physical-layer security, and underwater acoustic communications. Our department offers a wide range of courses related to communication and networking, including Telecommunications I, Telecommunications II, Computer Networks, Digital Signal Processing, Wireless Communications, Digital Communications, Detection and Estimation Theory, Advanced Computer Networks, Optical Information Processing, and Communication Network Analysis.

Our faculty members in the field of communication and networking are well recognized internationally in their research fields and publish their results and inventions in highest-ranked journals and international conferences. For instance, the celebrated “Polar Codes” which are adopted in 5G standards have been invented by Prof. Erdal Arıkan in our department.
