M.S. and Ph.D. Thesis Preparation Guidelines

The thesis should be written according to the guidelines provided in the templates for Latex For LATEX style/template/example files please check the web site of Graduate School of Engineering and Science For preparation of thesis and dissertation work, students are encouraged to use LATEX together with the style files that are provided by Graduate School of Engineering and Science at Bilkent University (They are included in the example files above). LATEX 2.e is available on most LINUX/UNIX machines. For the PC environment MiKTeX is an up-to-date implementation for the Windows operating system and can be downloaded at www.miktex.org One can use WinShell as a free integrated development environment (IDE) for easy working with LaTeX or TeX, which is available at www.winshell.de or WinEdt, a shareware TeX editor which is accessible via www.winedt.com or http://www.latexeditor.org/ A good but not complete reference to how to use LATEX 2.e is available at http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/info/lshort/english/lshort.pdf For figures, one can use OLETeX that uses Windows PostScript printing features to convert ANY OLE object (e.g. Visio picture, Excel plot, etc) into an Encapsulated Postscript (EPS) file which can be easily processed by LaTeX. Students are also encouraged to use BIBTEX for references in their LATEX documents. Referencing in long documents in WORD is generally tedious unless professional programs like Endnote and Reference Manager are used.
