Prof. Ergin Atalar Receives Distinguished Teaching Award

Prof. Ergin Atalar received the 2024 Bilkent University Distinguished Teaching Award, a university-wide award for sustained outstanding teaching and mentorship.

Ergin Atalar was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1961. He received his B.S. degree from Bogazici University in 1985, M.S. degree from Middle East Technical University in 1987, and Ph.D. degree from Bilkent University in 1991, all in Electrical Engineering. Immediately after graduation, he joined Johns Hopkins University, where he became a Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the Center for Image Guided Interventions.

Dr. Atalar is a Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Director of the National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM) at Bilkent University. He is also a founder of MRI Interventions, Inc. and Troyka Med A. S. The main research interests of Dr. Atalar are Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Image-guided interventions. In 2006, Ergin Atalar won the TUBITAK science award. He is married to Selale and the father of Melis and Deniz.
