Bilkent EEE Ph.D. graduate Dr. Mustafa Ütkür received the 2022 Serhat Özyar Young Scientist of the Year Award.
Dr. Mustafa Ütkür has received the award for his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Cancer Imaging and Treatment Monitoring with Color Magnetic Particle Imaging” under the supervision of Assoc. Dr. Emine Ülkü Sarıtaş.

Dr. Ütkür’s Ph.D. research is based on the development of a new biomedical imaging modality called magnetic particle imaging (MPI) to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In his thesis, he experimentally demonstrated the non-invasive viscosity and temperature mapping capability of MPI using a novel technique that he has developed. The outputs of his thesis work have been published in leading scientific journals in the field of biomedical imaging such as IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Medical Physics, Physics in Medicine and Biology, and Applied Physics Letters.
