EEE Graduate Selected for the Turkish Astronaut and Science Mission program

Tuva Cihangir Atasever, a 2014 Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduate, is one of the two astronaut candidates selected for the Turkish Astronaut and Science Mission program of the Turkish Space Agency and TÜBİTAK Space.

Atasever, who made history by being among the first astronauts of our country, will be ready for the International Space Station expedition after the training stages of NASA, Axiom Space, and SpaceX. In the second quarter of 2024, Atasever will perform a spaceflight with Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo vehicle and perform various microgravity experiments. Before this process, he worked as an avionics system engineer for five years in the Micro Satellite Launch Vehicle project of the Roketsan Space Systems Directorate, and he also has a master’s degree in photonics from the University of California, Irvine.
