Advancements in microelectronics are one of the main drivers of today’s technology. Microelectronics is a very diverse field including analog circuits that work from DC to several GHz, digital circuits that enable the computation power we have today, and sensors that convert the physical changes to electrical signals. Our phones, tablets, cars, cameras, medical equipment, and digital devices have become safer and smarter thanks to electronic circuits and sensors. Therefore, both industry and academia need electronics engineers to develop new sensing methods and circuitry to improve the quality of life. Electrical and Electronics Eng. Dept. offers state of the art research and education in the important fields of electronics. The worldly-known faculty members carry out research and teach classes in the fields of Analog and Digital Integrated Circuit (IC) Design, Hardware Acceleration, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), Micromachined Transducers, Biomedical Instrumentation, Acoustic Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Electronics is an applied research field and UNAM (National Nanotechnology Center) in Bilkent University offers a fully equipped state-of-the-art cleanroom for the fabrication of micro and nanodevices.
Our research program also integrates architectural and algorithmic principles to realize the next generation of applications through hardware-software co-design. Low-power hardware design, microarchitectural design space exploration for energy/performance optimization, and building specialized hardware accelerators for machine learning applications are some of the research subjects that our faculty work on, combining techniques from computer architecture, IC design, statistics, and machine learning domains.
